May 2010 - Three new signings at Le Gallais & Luce

Three lawyers have recently joined the team at Le Gallais & Luce.

Fiona del Amo, who has previously worked for Le Gallais & Luce as well as Crill Canavan, has been appointed as Head of Knowledge Management. In this role she will be responsible for ensuring that the lawyers within the firm have the most up to date legal resources at  their finger tips, an essential role in these changing times. Fiona is a locally qualified solicitor.

Martin Elks is an English Solicitor and also a Chartered Secretary and has over 10 years experience of working in law in Jersey having previously worked for both the English law firm Nigel Harris and Partners and for several years in the Private Client Litigation department of Mourant, de Feu and Jeune.  Martin has joined the Litigation department of Le Gallais & Luce and will, primarily, be handling a family and criminal law caseload.

Marianne Shaw, who qualified as an English solicitor in 2007, also came to Le Gallais & Luce from Nigel Harris & Partners where she had worked in the Private Client department. In this role she dealt with high net worth clients and their structures as well as being actively involved in the Wills and Probate areas of the firm. Like Fiona, Marianne is no stranger to Le Gallais & Luce, having worked there previously. Marianne has been employed as part of the extremely busy Probate department.

Advocate Adam Clarke, managing partner of Le Gallais & Luce, said “We are delighted to welcome Fiona, Marianne and Martin to the firm. They are already proving to be great assets and have fitted in very well to our team. Having weathered the recent poor economic climate relatively comfortably,  Le Gallais & Luce is positioning itself to take advantage of the opportunities that will come with recovery and Marianne, Martin and Fiona will have a big part to play in that.”

Christopher had been with Le Gallais & Luce for slightly less than a year but, during that time, he had become a highly valued and respected member of the firm, initially as a consultant and, more recently, as a partner.  All the staff have been devastated by this news. January 2009 - Boost for “Local Business Team” at Le Gallais & Luce

Le Gallais & Luce have strengthened their commitment to local businesses with the addition of two lawyers, Jackie Harris and Roy Slater, to their Local Business Team.

Jackie, who is a locally qualified solicitor, joined the firm in September 2008 as part of the Property Law team, advising on all aspects of local property law.  In addition, as part of the Local Business Team, she also offers employment advice to local businesses.

Roy is a qualified South African advocate and solicitor as well as having been admitted to the Rolls of the English Law Society as a solicitor.  He joined Le Gallais & Luce in January and is already a very active member of the team as well as providing support to the Litigation department, calling on his extensive experience in various parts of the world.

Malcolm Le Boutillier, partner and head of the Local Business Team, says “We are delighted to have Jackie and Roy on board. They are already proving to be exceptional assets for the firm.  Le Gallais & Luce is very committed to Jersey and our investment in our Local Business Team reflects this.  We know that there will be difficult times ahead for local businesses and we want to be in a position to support them with the best advice at rates which are not going to add to their problems.”

December 2008 - Local Notaries join forces

Two of the Island’s top Notary Publics have joined forces.Paul Scally, a partner with Le Gallais & Luce and secretary of the local Notaries Association, has joined with Nigel Jenner, formerly with local law firm Jenners. This association will create a comprehensive Notary service which will be available to clients at all times. By working together, Paul and Nigel will be able to offer a professional notary service to local businesses and residents and support each other when time would not otherwise allow.

The office of Notary Public is internationally recognised and its function is to prepare, attest, authenticate and certify deeds and other documents for use anywhere in the world.  A notary’s signature and official seal means that those documents are acceptable as proof of a matter to the judicial or other public authorities either here in Jersey or in any another jurisdiction where they are to be used.

Paul Scally says “This is an important move for us and for the financial services industry in Jersey. Although there is very little kudos or financial benefit in it, it is a service which is important to local businesses and individuals and one which we are committed to providing.”
